FALL SEASON

The Fall Season is the primary program of Region 214.  Each fall we have just over 2,200 players ranging in age from 4-18 years old playing on over 220 teams.  The majority of our players live in South Pasadena and San Marino, but we also have players from San Gabriel, Pasadena, Alhambra, Los Angeles and other nearby cities as our registration is open to all players.

AYSO emphasizes a “balanced teams and everyone plays” philosophy that provides an enriching and fun experience for players of all abilities.  Each player is guaranteed to play ¾ of each game during the season encouraging the highest level of participation from each child.

Boys and girls play separately in one of nine age based divisions over an 11 game regular season.  Games in the younger divisions, U5, U6, U7 & U8 are non competitive with the emphasis on fun and skill development.  No scores or standings are kept.  The competitive divisions, U10-U19, cap off their regular game season with playoffs.

Who can participate?
Children born after July 31, 1993 and before August 1, 2008 will be eligible to participate in the Fall 2012 season.

Region 214 offers 3 special programs during the fall season:

U-5 Program – our youngest players – click U-5 Program tab on left
VIP Program – our Very Important Players with special needs – click VIP Program tab on left

Schedule?

Our season begins in late August and will end in late November/early December.  Except for the U5 & U6 players who practice and play on Saturdays, all teams practice one evening during the week and have a game each Saturday (Upper Division play on Sunday).

Cost?
$120 Registration fee includes a uniform, pictures.  Financial Scholarships are available.

Registration?

Pre-registration online at www.eayso.org will start in mid March.  Parents will then bring a printed Registration Form and the Registration Fee (check or cash) to Walk-Up Registration in April (dates TBA on website in mid March)

AYSO is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization and many volunteers are needed throughout the year to serve as coaches, referees, field set-up and maintenance, uniform distribution and a host of other specialized jobs. All parents will be encouraged to sign-up for a volunteer commitment. In addition, Sponsorship and Patron opportunities exist.

U-5 PROGRAM

What is the U-5 Program?
The U-5 Program, also called the U-5 Jamboree, provides young players and their parents with a “pressure free” introduction to the beautiful and simple game of soccer.    U-5 Players will start by playing simple, fun activities and games that require little to no practice, and a minimal time commitment.
Each session will consist of 45 minutes of warm up and skills followed by 30 minutes of game time.  During the games, each team plays with just 3 players per side to give players the maximum touches of the ball, and the most interaction.  No scores or standings are kept and the activities are kept “pressure-free” and fun!
Each player will have a parent (or other adult) with them on the field during the warm up and practice and cheering them on during the games.

Although it is a season long program, we call it a jamboree because each week is one hour of pure fun and games.  No pressure.  No score.  No yelling.  Just fun, fun, and more fun!

For parents, this is a great way to spend extra time with your child and help them work on their social and physical development, as well as learning about soccer.

Who can Participate?
Boys and girls who are 4 years old on July 31st of the year of the Fall Season.

Schedule?
The U-5 Program will run the same dates as the Fall Regular season starting in early September and finishing in late November before Thanksgiving.
Practices and games with both be held on Saturday mornings during a 75 minute session.  Each session will consist of 45 minutes of warm up and skills followed by 30 minutes of game time.

Cost?
$120 Registration fee includes a uniform, pictures, and award at the end of the season.

Registration?
Pre-registration online at www.eayso.org will start in mid March.  Parents will then bring a printed Registration Form and the Registration Fee (check or cash) to Walk-Up Registration in April (dates TBA on webiste in mid March)

VIP PROGRAM
(Very Important Players)

What is the VIP Program?
The AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer experience for children whose physical or mental abilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams. These players are Very Important Players (VIP) in AYSO. We recognize that all people need to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance. The VIP Program offers that acceptance and carries the philosophy Everyone Plays to a new heights- giving everyone a chance to play.

The VIP Program has been structured to integrate our players into the rest of AYSO by providing a soccer season and in some cases, using “buddies”-able bodied helpers- to assist the players who need assistance both on and off the field. Our goals for every participating player are:

  • Have fun with soccer
  • Understand the fundamentals of the game
  • Learn teamwork and sportsmanship
  • Increase positive self-esteem
  • Become more physically fit
  • Meet and be comfortable with new people

Who can participate?
Any child whose physical or mental abilities make it difficult to successfully participate on a mainstream team. VIP teams may include:

  • Blind or visually impaired
  • Amputees or with conditions that impair mobility
  • Mentally or emotionally challenged
  • Autism
  • Down Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy

Schedule-
The season runs from early September to mid November concurrent with the Fall Regular Season.  Practices and games will be held on Sunday afternoons for 1 hour.  The team may travel to nearby regions for games on Sunday afternoon

Cost?
We give all VIP players in Region 214 a full scholarship so there is no cost.  Players receive a uniform, pictures and an end of season trophy.

Registration?
Players can be pre-registered online at www.eayso.org starting in March for the coming fall season.  Please be sure to select VIP on the player form and contact our VIP Director Joe Fitzpatrick at joefitzmail@gmail.com to find out more information and confirm your registration.

PLAY-THROUGH

What is Play-Through?
The Area C Play-Through Tournament is a single elimination tournament held in January where the regular season champion and runner-up in the U10, U12 & U14 divisions from each of the 9 Regions in Area C compete to become the Area C Champion of their division. The tournament champion in each division advances to the Section 1 Play-Through Tournament held in March to compete against other Area champions from around Southern California.

Who can participate?
The Champion and Runner-up teams in each of the U10, U12 & U14 divisions in each Region in Area C (Arcadia-2, Pasdena-13, San Gabirel-40, Alhambra-60, Glendale-88, Temple City-98, South Pasadena/San Marino-214, South El Monte-908, and Boyle Heights-1304)

Schedule –
The Area C Play-Through Tournament is usually held the second weekend in January.

Play-Through
ALL-STARS

What is All-Stars?
All-Stars is a separate season organized and run by Area 1C for players who have demonstrated excellence in soccer skills and enthusiasm to improve their skills.  Teams play a league schedule in January and February each year with the eventual winners advancing to the Section Tournament held in March.

The league schedule competition includes teams from all Area 1C Regions – Arcadia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, Alhambra, Glendale, Temple City, So. El Monte, Boyle Heights and So.Pasadena/San Marino.

There are three levels of All-Star play – Section, Area and Regional.

Section All-Stars is designed primarily for players who are in the “older” birthday year for each division.  Each region may enter one team in Area 1C’s Section All-Stars program in each of the boys and girls, U10, U12 & U14 divisions.

Area All-Stars is designed primarily for players who are in the “younger” birthday year for each division.  Each Region may normally enter only one (one boys team and one girls team) team for each division.

Regional All Stars is designed to further the development of players in both ages who have demonstrated excellent soccer skills and enthusiasm, but were not selected for a Section or Area team.  Each Region may enter one or more teams in Area 1C’s Regional Stars program.

Who can participate?
Players on a regular season team in the U10, U12 & U14 Divisions who participated in at least ½ of the games during the regular season are eligible to participate in the All Star season (exceptions are made for injury and illness).

How are players selected for teams?
All Star players are selected to teams at the All Star Selection Meeting open to all coaches of a team in the division during the regular season.  Players will attend a tryout session where coaches can observe players they may not have seen during regular season play.  Coaches will vote for players to be selected to a All Star team based on their observations during the tryouts, observations during the regular season play and recommendations made during the All Star Selection Meeting. The number of All Star teams formed in a division is often limited by the number of parents who volunteer to coach and referee.  Players whose parents volunteer to coach or referee during the All Star season will be given priority.

Schedule?
All-Star teams practice 1 or 2 times a week on a weeknight and have games every Saturday and Sunday during the 6 week season from mid January to early March.

Cost?
The cost per player is $80 (includes uniform and sweatshirt) due at the first practice.  Scholarships are available.

Registration?
Sign-Up for post-regular season All-Star play will be available via eAYSO starting in late October.

All-Stars is a completely new/separate season.  We need coaches, assistant coaches, center referees, line referees, field maintenance and administrative volunteers.  We simply cannot do it without your help.

  SPRING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (YDP)

What is Spring YDP?
The purpose of the Youth Development Program (YPD) is to afford player development opportunities to interested youth soccer players. A recreational league that functions for only part of the year, while fun for all involved, does not allow committed and/or enthusiastic players to develop to their full potential.

Who can participate?
Spring YDP is open to players in the U10-U19 divisions.  There will be 2 levels of play: Blue Flight - Advanced players (All Star Section and/or Area teams) and Red Flight - Developing players
Families wishing to participate should agree to up to two practices per week and games on both Saturday and Sunday. Teams will travel to fields throughout Area 1C where games are scheduled. The farthest one may have to travel within Area 1C is about 20 miles.

How are players selected to teams?
Spring YDP teams will be selected by an independent committee with coaches’input. The teams are formed from among those players who have signed up by using all the evaluations available within the region for the players involved, including ratings from the previous fall season, All-Stars/Regional Stars, and any tournament team the player may have participated in. We will make every effort to accommodate all players who wish to participate in this program, but it is possible that not all players who sign up for YDP will be placed on a team either because there are not enough players for a team in that division or there are too many players in a division.  Players whose parents volunteer to coach or referee during the YDP season will be given priority.
